Marcus O’Malley, a once prominent investigative reporter in Miami, has fallen on hard times. After an episode that left him nearly beaten to death by Cuban mobsters when he got a little too close to a story, O’Malley retreats to a sleepy little island in southwest Florida. He now writes fluff stories for a weekly newspaper on Fort Myers Beach and lives on his brother’s yacht.
His editor asks him to write a story about an unsolved murder from seven years ago where a man was burned to death. As O’Malley researches the old cold case he discovers there was a lot more to the crime than was ever reported by the press.
The old instincts and passion that once made him a well-respected journalist are beginning to return again. After he writes a scathing piece calling out who he believes ordered the murder, his life is thrown into turmoil once again. O’Malley’s search for the truth puts him on a path that takes him island hopping throughout the Caribbean in search of a brutal drug lord who ordered the murder.

I fee that it has a great story line and the characters are believable. I also thought it was clever to put a washed up reporter that was hiding from life on his brother's boat, into a fast paced dangerous fact finding mission that nearly cost him his life. Fast moving story. Loved the local reference to Southwest Florida and the surrounding area. Looking forward to the next one!
