Mickey J. Corrigan writes romance fiction which is really hard to categorize at times. She writes romance, but it’s not your champagne and flowers type of romance complete with a playboy prince to romance you with a background score of lush violins. Your hero could be an ex-con who is out on parole. Instead of champagne, it’s a small whiskey with a beer chaser and hey, where are my roses? And the sex? It’s strictly down market. Cheap hotels which rent rooms by the hour. If you’re lucky. Otherwise, you may find yourself making out by the dustbins down a back alley somewhere, shoulder to shoulder with a couple of alley cats howling instead of the violins. Gross? Your words, should you choose tho think that way, not mine, baby. But do you know what? I freaking love her stories. They’re real, that’s why. Real and human and yeah, unputdownable. Mickey J. Tells it like it is, no frills, no flounces, just in your face. And that writing voice? Unbe-freaking-lievable. The woman is a born storyteller. That’s an Irish trait, mind. And I knew she had Irish blood in her the minute I started reading her. I just knew it.Tami Lee lives a quiet life in Dusky Beach, a rough end of her Florida town where a lot of people who could be classed as low life hang out. She works hard and she gets by and she enjoys a drink. Like all of us, she’s looking for love, for someone special to share her life with. When she meets Cat who is, yes, out on parole and I’m not even going to tell you what for, she thinks that maybe there’s something here. Well, is there? You gotta get your hands on this book to find out. So if you enjoy reading about life in the raw, read some of this author’s work, beginning with this story. The one thing which strikes me about this author is that she has a woman’s voice – but she writes like a man.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it, as we say in Ireland.

Whiskey Sour Noir The Hard Stuff Book 1 edition by Mickey J Corrigan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Tami Lee is smart enough to know she's messed up but not smart enough to do anything about it. She hooks up with Cat, a hot dude who also happens to be labeled a sex offender. I was shaking my head in disbelief the entire time I was reading this story. The heroine has a very unique voice, which I loved, and is very self-aware and yet makes terrible choices in life and men. In spite of this, I really enjoyed the read. Though it takes place in sunny Florida, it is definitely noir in terms of characters and their pasts. The main reason I loved the story is because I cared about the heroine in spite of her awful choices and I never knew where the story was going. The ending surprised me, and that's all I'm going to say.
A novella unlike any I have read. Tammy Lee is an edgy character, not your typical in a romance and I loved her gritty character, job, and take on life. Cat Avery who she falls for is an accused sex offender, an angle I've never seen done before as the hero. But it worked in this story. He was innocent but still an interesting twist. Highly recommend for a different but edgy and quick read.
This fast-reading novella was a great way to get acquainted with this new (to me!) author. I'd recommend it as a starting place for anyone who thinks they might want to read more of her works.
What can I say? It's very different. Kinda like those old cheesy detective paperbacks I used to read years ago. The major difference? The hard-drinking bed-hopper is... a woman. An interesting concept, don't you think? I trust she becomes a detective in later books, but I'll let ya know. (I've already bought one of the novels.)
When the author asked me to her book, I took one look at the blurb and thought, "Damn. She went there."
“You may call me trailer trash or low class or whatever. I don’t care. I know what I like and that’s what I care for.”
This is a romance. A white-trash romance. There is nothing sexy or pretty about this story, yet I couldn't look away. The story grabbed my attention from the very beginning with the introduction of a young woman, Tami Lee, who lives and works in a desolate area of Florida's panhandle and shows little desire to move forward. She works as an unqualified counselor and spends time at a bar every evening where she knows most of the patrons... intimately.
“My after-hours case load didn’t exclude ex-cons or the so-so labeled. I had needs and so did the men I was fated to attract. I wasn’t proud of that. Still aren’t.”
One day she walks in and there is a new bartender there to greet her. She is instantly attracted to him. Kat Avery was an ordinary man, with a wife, job and white picket fence, until one day it all came crashing down on him. He was suddenly slapped with a Sexual Offender label and ousted by society. Lucky for Kat, this doesn't bother Tami Lee nearly as much as it should.
“He’s going to love me and hurt me, but I don’t know in what order.”
“Avery’s past held his future in a chokehold, one that could eventually suffocate me as well. “
This book is HOT. And dirty. I mean dirty like there is a film of dust covering each moment and setting as though the grime is a character all its own. It is well written and keeps your attention from cover to cover.
4 Stars for this hot little novella! We are looking forward to the next one. What else would you drink with it? Whiskey Sour Noir!
ARC generously offered to us by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, Mickey! Cheers!
