Sorry I couldn’t understand so many good reviews in this book! I tried to like it and there was some good and funny parts but it was mostly boring in my opinion. It started really slow, picked up after 50% of the book but the romance soon gave place to drama and the book turned boring again. I like a book with lots of romance and didn’t find it in this one. It took me a long time to finish it.Product details

Thoroughly enjoyed the interplay between the characters in this interesting story. Lots of imagery elicited in the writing of this story. A clear description of the illusion produced by what people see as opposed to the real life of the main character of Addison. This is so common it resonates with my experiences in life. Well done Susan Sey; Look forward to enjoying more of your writing.
This was a first for me with this author. I absolutely loved everything about this book. I found it very hard to put down. The characters drew me in from page one. Oh, that first kiss! It had me cheering out loud for this sweet couple. I purchased books two and three and I'm anxious to dive right
back in to the little town of Devil's Kettle.
I actually thought; light read, usual guy/girl roundabout BUT I was pleasantly surprised by a well grounded, interesting story !! Details regarding a local fire Co. and small town population with everyday 'real' people. A few good twists and turns to the story and truly well done !! An enjoyable story. Thank You.....
Susan Sey is an amazing storyteller. I've loved every one of her books and can't wait for the 2nd book in the Devil's Kettle series. The entire Davis clan is fascinating and I was truly caught up in Jax and Addy's story.
I love an author who is both talented and creative and doesn't fall into the formulaic trap.

I loved Susan Sey's Blake Brothers series, and immediately downloaded this book the day it was released. Addy and Jax are my favorite couple since Audrey and Will in Talent for Trouble. Fast-paced, exciting, with a good mix of mystery and romance. I read it on kindle unlimited first, then as soon as I finished reading it, I purchased it so I could keep it and re-read it whenever I like! Susan's books are the kind that pull you in and keep you coming back for more. I'm so glad this is the first book in a new series! Can't wait to read the next one.
Great start to a very promising series. I've enjoyed all of Susan Sey's books and her writing just keeps getting better. This one seemed richer, more complex, emotionally deeper, and very satisfying. Had humor in just the right places. This is a story about Addison (Addy), a widower and her dead husband's (Diego's) family. They all live in the small town of Devil's Kettle. Because of Ms. Sey's descriptions of the town, I could really see it in my mind. This town economically relies on The Davis family. Diego had been a brilliant, handsome, famous artist and Addy was his muse. Diego's big brother, Jax, has always loved Addy from afar but kept it a secret until recently. A financial crisis for the normally well off family sets many complications into motion. This story had me staying up way loo late at night! I really didn't want it to end, and I can't wait for the second book. Loved it!
One of the best books I’ve ever gotten for free - excellent writing, great characters, just the right amount of suspense and intrigue, (meaning I did not have it all figured out two chapters in). Also love that this is part of a series, but did not end on a cliffhanger. I like the writing and characters enough that I will be reading the rest of the series out of choice, not because I was forced to, to see what happen with the first couple!
